Journey back through time and experience the Greenham Common Decontamination Suite, Control Tower and Peace Camp in a specially commissioned immersive theatre event

Decontamination Suite, Control Tower and Peace CampA unique opportunity to explore parts of Greenham Common that played a key role in the Cold War, through scenes presented by professional performers. Three 15-minute scenes and a Q & A with a local historian, will bring the Cold War of the 1980s to life, at two venues either side of the Common linked by a 30 minute walk across the beautiful Site of Special Scientifi Interest, filled with wildlife and the relics of military life. (Event duration–Approx 90 mins).

Decontamination Suite Tour
You have been contaminated. Follow the red arrows on the floor. Follow all instructions. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LEAVE. Our theatrical guided tour will unveil the fascinating secrets locked away in Greenham’s chemical decontamination suite.

 

Control Tower USAF Experience
The United States Air Force prepare to receive the fi rst of 96 cruise miles at RAF Greenham Common. Join the air traffic control team in the lookout at the top of the tower as they guide in the planes to land on what was once the longest runway in Europe.

 

Peace Camp Protests
In the 1980s thousands of women camped at the side of Greenham Common airbase to protest against the nuclear missiles. Visit Indigo Camp and find out why the peace camps have been set up and how the peace women live their daily lives.

Additional Information
We advise guests to arrive 15 minutes prior to the event start time, and to check the Venue Start Point on their ticket. Schools performances are suitable for older Primary KS2 older pupils (local history) or Secondary – Sixth Form History Students (Cold War).
