Newbury’s Market Place was filled with thousands of people on Friday, all wrapped up warm for this year’s Newbury Christmas Sing-Along festive celebration.
Now in its second year, the free music extravaganza organised by Greenham Trust and Visit Newbury treated the local community to a magical event. Children from local schools opened the evening with a special performance of ‘Mary Did you Know?’
Chris Boulton, Chief Executive of Greenham Trust said, “A special thanks to Cold Ash Brass Band, The Cromwell Singers, local music teachers Nic and Sarah Cope and all of the schools who helped to make this event such a success. Thank you also to our fantastic compère Adam Kotz, and of course Re-Take That who were phenomenal!
“Seeing the joy and happiness on peoples’ faces is what Greenham Trust strives for. Being able to host events for the community, raise additional funding for local good causes and bring so many generations together to celebrate the most wonderful time of year is important to us.”
One lucky member of the crowd was also given the opportunity to donate £5,000 to a charitable project of their choice. Winning Greenham Trust’s fourth and final golden ticket of 2019 was Ashley Pearce. He has chosen to donate to the Newbury Community Resource Centre which helps local people in need by providing re-used furniture and household goods to support independent living.
A bucket collection on the night by Eight Bells for Mental Health Newbury also raised £78 that will be matched by Greenham Trust.
“This event is a true example of why Newbury is such a great place to live. We enjoy working with local businesses like Greenham Trust to be able to encourage the community to come together and also attract more visitors to our great town,” said Laurie-Jane Cann, chief executive officer of Newbury BID.
