You might be surprised to know that the Greenham Trust has run a university student funding scheme called Greenham Scholar since 2007. We’ve just never shouted about it!
This innovative scheme supports a small number of high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds with funding for their degree courses. The fund covers fees for those who would not ordinarily be able to afford to attend university.
The Award: Grant of up to £10,000 spread over the duration of the course with a 2:1 degree attracting a bonus of £3,000.
We contact all local 6th form schools in West Berkshire each year in January to identify high achievers who need financial support for the duration of their courses.
Eligibility criteria:
- In receipt of free school meals/pupil premium
- The student must achieve at least 2 ‘B’s and 1 ‘C’ at A Level (or BTEC National Diploma overall distinction at least DDM)
- Course must be at a UK university
- Should the student receive any additional bursaries/sponsorship, the student will still be entitled to receive the Greenham Scholar Award providing the total sum of bursaries and grants received, including the Greenham Scholar, does not exceed £5,000 per year
- Report of satisfactory progress required
- The student may defer the award for up to one year should they wish to postpone their entry to university.
Please note: Students cannot apply directly to Greenham Trust, but feel free to talk to your Head of 6th Form if you think you might be eligible.
