Greenham Trust is proud to announce the revised and simpler:

Escalator and Mini Escalator 2024

Following last year’s successful Escalator challenge, we are updating the scheme in 2024 to make it even easier for you to supercharge your fundraising.

There will be two schemes, one offering up to £30k in matched funding and the other offering up to £14k in matched funding.  Instead of an intense week of fundraising activities, the events will take place on a nominated day over consecutive weeks to allow more time to prepare for your events.  Each week the fundraising target will increase and so will the level of matched funding.

Chris Boulton, CEO Greenham Trust said, “Along with our regular Trust Top Up matched funding initiative, general grants and appeals like the Cost of Living funds, these challenges have become a well-loved part of Greenham Trust’s giving portfolio. It can give opportunities to projects which they wouldn’t ordinarily get. I wish the best of luck to everyone who enters.”

The Escalator:

Minimum project size £42,500, you raise £10,000, Greenham Trust awards £30,000. The Escalator will take place on one nominated day a week (eg each Friday), over four consecutive weeks.

Final dates for the challenge will be agreed between successful applicants and Greenham Trust.  All activities must be completed on or before Friday 18 October 2024.

The Rules! (there’s always rules!)

Projects which have already received any funding from Greenham Trust or Peter Baker grants will not be eligible.

Applications can be for capital or revenue projects, but not core costs.

To apply for the Escalator your project should be for a minimum of £42,500. To apply for the Mini Escalator your project value should be £21,500 or more.

Too much? Once the daily target is reached, no further matched funding will be awarded for that day.

Too Little? If the applicant fails to reach their fundraising target on any day, the matched funding will be awarded at £1 for £1 for that day and any remaining days up to the daily target.

The expectation is that the charity will run a series of fundraising events – at least one on each week – and encourage direct donations to the project through The Good Exchange platform.

FAQ

When will I know if my application has been selected?

We are aiming to notify applicants within 3 weeks of the application deadline.

When will the events take place?

We will agree a mutually convenient time period with the successful applicant, however we expect that the events will take place in the Summer or Autumn, on the same day each week (Monday to Friday) and over consecutive weeks. All events must be completed on or before Friday 18 October 2024.

What if I don’t hit the daily target?

If you miss a daily target because you have not raised enough for that day, then you will receive 1:1 matching for that day and any remaining days in the challenge.

What happens if I cannot pay in for a particular reason even if I have the donation ready e.g., technical gremlin?

This will be dealt with on a case by case basis depending on the reason.

Can I pay all the donations in at the end of the day?

We would prefer you to encourage supporters to donate directly on-line via the Good Exchange.

If my donations for one day go over the target amount is the difference rolled over to the following week’s event?

No. Each day should be treated as a separate and distinct challenge. Any additional donations over the daily target will NOT be matched.

Do I have to raise the funds on the day specified?

No but we would prefer you to arrange activities on the day specified where possible and encourage direct donations through the platform.

What time is the latest a donation can be added to The Good Exchange for it to count towards a daily target?

Due to a computer thing, we will be using UTC (GMT) time. So each 24 hour period will be from 1am. So “Monday” is from 1am Monday to 1am Tuesday morning etc.

Can the donations come from any organisation?

We appreciate that times are tough for everyone and this is a lot to raise in a week, so for this challenge we will be accepting up to 50% of donations from other charitable sources for this challenge only. Corporate and individual donations are unlimited (up to the daily target, of course.)

Do I have to put on a massive fund-raising event each day ?

We’d prefer a number of different events across the weeks.  This isn’t just about raising money, it’s about supercharging your project – driving momentum, bringing communities together and raising awareness too! Smaller events at the beginning ready for a big bang on the last fundraising day!
