Greenham Trust helps three local charities raise over £90k in 24 hours

Greenham Trust recently held three £25k in a Day fundraising events as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.  The lucky applicants were 1st Wash Common Scout Group, Parenting Special Children and Dingley’s Promise who each successfully raised over £30,000.  The charities were targeted with raising £5000 in a 24 hour period which was quintuple matched by Greenham Trust.

1st Wash Common Scout Group raised £31,700 to complete the internal fit-out and exterior development of their new scout hut.  Facilities include an indoor and outdoor climbing wall and a fitted kitchen which will extend the use of the scout hut beyond the beavers, cubs and scouts to the wider community. The Scout Group raised the funds at Wash Common Community Festival in September with activities such as welly wanging, archery and a barbeque.

Rob Daniels, Group Scout Leader and Trustee said: “We had planned the grand opening of our new Scout hut and ‘25k-in-a-day’ challenge to coincide with Wash Common Community Festival. However, we had to rapidly change our plans after the sad death of our Patron, Her Majesty the Queen, a few days before. Bunting, balloons and bucket rattling were all cancelled at the last minute, even the ‘welly wanging’ was touch and go for a while, so overall it was a much lower key event than we had originally planned. Our expectations of raising the full amount on the day were low, so to exceed the target on the day was an incredible achievement and testament to the will of our amazing volunteers and brilliant Wash Common community spirit. We have been bowled over by the generosity of the local community. A massive thank you to Greenham Trust for their help and support throughout our project.”

Parenting Special Children raised £30,376 to fund their trauma service in West Berkshire.  Their fundraising activities included a business networking lunch, family activity day and individual sponsored events.  The funding will enable them to provide specialist trauma support to vulnerable families and children for the next 12 months.

Tess Eagles, Partnerships Manager at Parenting Special Children said: “Thank you to Greenham Trust for choosing Parenting Special Children as a recipient of £25k in a Day. The campaign raised much needed and vital funding for our Trauma service which is under threat due to lack of funds. Thank you to Greenham Trust, The Good Exchange and everyone who donated to the campaign, your generosity means we can continue to offer life changing Trauma support to families living in West Berkshire.”

On Thursday 10th November Dingley’s Promise held their £25k in a Day event and raised £30,377 by hosting a race day at which local businesses pledged towards the campaign. They also engaged parents and staff at the centre by holding a cake sale on the day to celebrate the match funding opportunity and the success of the Newbury Centre.  The funds are needed to refurbish a building which will become their new home in West Berkshire for many years to come, enabling more children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in and around Newbury to get the best start in life.

Jo Evans, Fundraising & Communications Manager for Dingley’s Promise said: “We are thrilled to have reached this fabulous target and have been supported once again by Greenham Trust. We thank all our fantastic local businesses and individual supporters who donated to this appeal, as well as our centre and outreach families. We are very excited at the prospect of being able to accomplish all our plans to refurbish the new centre, providing a comfortable environment for families and visitors to the centre, and an engaging and spacious environment in which current and future children supported by Dingley’s Promise can thrive.  Our thanks to everyone involved! “

Chris Boulton of Greenham Trust said: “We were delighted to support these worthwhile projects and all three applicants did exceedingly well to raise £5000 in 24 hours in the current economic climate. All three projects will have a significant impact in the local community and enhance the lives of young people for years to come.
