Greenham Trust announces successful applicants for its Escalator challenge

Greenham Trust is delighted to announce that West Berkshire Mencap and Home-Start West Berkshire have been selected to take part in their Escalator and Mini-Escalator challenges this October.  Each of the fundraising challenges take place over 5 days and the level of matched funding increases each day as the applicant reaches its fundraising targets.

First up will be Home-Start West Berkshire who are doing the Mini-Escalator where they need to raise £6,600 over 5 days to earn £25,000 in matched funding from Greenham Trust.  Home-Start are raising funds for a Family Coordinator to recruit, train and supervise 20 volunteers to assist 60 low-income families a year who are struggling due to the cost of living crisis.  They are planning a range of activities during week commencing Monday 16th October including a coffee morning, a quiz, schools fundraising programme and for the grand finale Claire Carless, chair of their Trustees, will overcome her fears and do a tandem sky-dive on Friday 20th October.

West Berkshire Mencap are going for the full Escalator from 26 to 30 October.  They are raising funds to purchase an accessible shepherd’s hut to provide a children’s overnight respite service at the Mencap Centre in Newbury. They need to raise £13,200 over 5 days to receive a huge £50,000 in matched funding from Greenham Trust.  They are running a number of Halloween themed fundraising events including a pumpkin trail, Halloween disco and a staff fundraising challenge.

Rob Daniels, Head of Grants, Greenham Trust said: “When we created the Escalator challenge, these were exactly the type of innovative projects and fundraising we had envisioned.  The Escalator is not just about the money, it’s about supercharging a project and bringing communities together. We are delighted to support these two worthy projects and wish Home-Start and Mencap every success with their fundraising activities”.

Grace Green, Director of Home-Start West Berkshire said: “The Cost-of-Living-Crisis has had a real impact on local families. Our team are seeing more and more families struggling to make ends meet and feeling the associated stress of not being able to provide for their children in the way that they would like. This essential funding will provide families experiencing financial hardship with a volunteer who can help them to make their money go further and provide much needed emotional support to get through this difficult time.”

Suzie Empson, Fundraising & Events Manager of West Berkshire Mencap said: “We at West Berkshire Mencap are delighted to be given the chance to raise £13,200 over 5 days which will then be increased to £63,200 through  Greenham Trust’s Escalator Challenge. My brief was to raise £70,000 to buy a fully converted accessible Shepherds Hut for Respite for parents and carers and a fun break for Children to be situated at the Mencap Centre. Raising this amount of money would take months of really hard work so it’s a hugely exciting opportunity for us.”
